Dressmaking Techniques Workshops 2017

New for 2017 - Bishop Auckland 

Last Saturday of each month 10.30am - 12.15pm

Ideal for beginners or those wanting to refresh an old skill or build on current ability.

Workshops are for 3 - 5 people. £12.50 per session if you commit to (and pay for) attending at least three sessions over the year or £15 per session if you just want to dip in for a particular skill.

Saturday 28th January -  SEWING MACHINE BASICS - how to thread, how to wind a bobbin, how to maintain your machine and how to do the basic stitches.

Saturday 25th February - SEAMS and HEMS - Flat seam, Zig Zag seam, Plain Hem, Rolled Hem

Saturday 25th March - MORE SEAMS and HEMS -  Overlocked seam, Bias Bound Seams & hems, Blind Hem, Twin Stitch Hem

Saturday 29th April - ZIPS - centered Zips, Invisible / concealed Zips

Sunday 29th May - WAISTs - traditional waistband, waist with facing, elasticted

Saturday 24th June - BUTTONs and BUTTONHOLES

 

Saturday 30th September - BODY MEASUREMENTS & PATTERN ADAPTION

Saturday 28th October - SLEEVES - Classic, Insert, Raglan

Saturday 25th November - Pockets: In-Seam, Trouser

A certificated sewing curriculum / fun club for 7 - 14 year olds.

Fridays - my workshop, Bishop Auckland 3.15 - 4.15 pm

£25 per half Term 

Certificates

Level 1 Hand sewing pincushion and appliqued mini cushion.

Level 2 Hand Sew a doll and its wardrobe, plus babies and machine sew a bag to keep your doll family in :-)

Level 3 Machine sewing - making their own top :-)

Level 4: Strip Patchwork bag or cushion cover

Level 5: Independant Choice, must include zip

Sew Social

Small friendly group for those who already sew and would like to do so in company and skill share. Participents bring their own projects to work on, with a tutor on hand to help with any tricky bits.

Sewing Machines provided by funding from Teesdale Action Programme (TAP)

Sew Social - Bishop Auckland £5 per session (some teaching given)

Simple T-Top 1/2 day Workshop for Groups

Sew a simple feminine T-Top,

Ideal workshop for small groups of three to eight people.

This will teach basic dressmaking skills for confident beginers or those wanting to refresh an old skill.

Each person will need 1/1/2 metre of own choice of fabric, 1.75 metres of matching or contrasting bias binding, 1 reel of thread.

 

Patterns, machines, haberdashery and tuition supplied.

Workshop Tutor costs £60,

So the more people you have the less cost to each individual person, i.e if three book it will cost you £20 each if six book only £10 each

I will travel to groups within county Durham - Tutor cost £70

Soft Lounge Pants 4 hour group workshop

Ideal confident beginners, refreshers 4 hour workshop,

Loose elasticated trousers, ideal for lazy days or as PJ bottoms.

1 - 1 1/2 metre of fabric needed, 1/2 metre of elastic.

£75 workshop tutor - price can be shared between 2-6 people.

Will travel to places within County Durham

 

Make a Girls Dress - Uk Sewing Shop - Darlington

 half day small friendly workshop held on various Saturdays Mornings 10am - 2 pm this year in the Old Tailor above the UK Sewing Shop in Bondgate, Darlington, led by Dyane Cakebread, qualified textiles tutor. Ideal for confident beginners and those with a little more sewing experiance.

During this workshop  you will make a winter or summer sleeveless girls dress (depending of fabric chosen), based on a pattern by 'The Great British Sewing Bee' sizes from age 3 - 10 years. Skills learned will enable you to make a basic dress in any size. Skills covered will include layout, cutting, seams, bodice lining, standard or revealed zip, hem.

Please bring 1.5 metres of your choice of fabric, 4" zip, 2 buttons and matching thread.

Drinks, biscuits or fruit provided

Make a Shift Dress at UK Sewing Shop - Darlington

A full day / or weekend small friendly workshop held 10am - 4.30 pm on various Saturdays this year in the Old Tailor above the UK Sewing Shop in Bondgate, Darlington, led by Dyane Cakebread, qualified textiles tutor. Ideal for very confident beginners and those with more sewing experiance wanting to extend their skills.

This workshop will equip you with all the skills needed to make a Classic Shift Dress, based on a pattern by 'The Great British Sewing Bee' sizes from 8 - 18. Skills covered will include altering pattern to ensure a good fit, layout, cutting, shaping, facings, invisable zip, blind hem etc.

Please bring 2.3 metres, 2.5 yards of cotton or linen, 14" invisable zip and matching thread.

Drinks, biscuits or fruit provided, plenty of local shops for lunch or bring your own
